Tools, 18th -20th Century
Made in from 1/5th to 1/48th scale by Wm. R. Robertson
As Robertson stated in his TEDx talk, “All artists and all craftsman have a thing about their tools.” Robertson is certainly guilty of this. Not only does he use antique tools, he collects them. He knows tools so well, he’s helped to restore historic workshops. More on this can be found on the tools page. He often makes scale copies of tools in his collection. Some of these are in larger scales than the 1/12th he normally works in.
The 17th Century hand vise is one of his favorites. The original was purchased by his late friend Ted at a Christies auction in 1969. It is very similar to an example in the Musée Le Secq des Tournelles. Note the engraving on the sides and fancy wing nut, details which are also found on Robertson’s miniature.
